How it all started...
I used to buy my clothes from a very well known clothing store (not naming names) growing up. I would always go into the store every time I went to the mall. One item I used to purchase from there a lot were jeans. Well, the last, literally, last, time I went in there, I was looking for a bigger size because I gained a little weight. I was looking all over the jean section looking for this particular size. After a few minutes, a sales associate walked up to me and asked what I was looking for. After I told her, she looks at me and goes, "I'm so sorry, you can only purchase bigger sizes online." I immediately walked out of the store and have not given that store another cent of my money.
I was, and still am, so dumbfounded as to why a woman of bigger sizes can't buy the same clothes IN store as a woman who is a size 5.
Ever since that day, I told myself that I NEVER want anyone else to experience the humiliation and discouragement I felt that day. After much thought, I decided to start JuJu & Co. Boutique. I want my store to be a safe place for women of ALL sizes.
"Where did the name JuJu come from?" When my oldest niece was born, we asked her to come up with nicknames for the whole family. She chose "JuJu" for me. During my brainstorming stages, I wanted to make sure to incorporate them in this company somehow. I also never EVER want them to experience anything close to what I experienced that day in the clothing store. My beautiful nieces are everything to me and I hope my store is an inspiration for them and all women out there!
